A real wooden Sushi Boat game board!

We are very excited to bring you the first-printing premium edition of Sushi Boat, designed by Dario Massarenti and Francesco Testini. Featuring a dynamic, wooden game board that changes as sushi is eaten and added,  with delicious-looking sushi art on the plates and yummy side dishes, Sushi Boat is easy (and fun!) to learn, even for younger gamers (down to age 8), but can prove challenging enough to keep gamers of all ages coming back for another serving.

This premium edition includes a solid wooden board, which will not be available in the standard release coming later next year! In addition, it includes all the other components above - and there's more coming, as we hit stretch goals!

HOW A TURN IS PLAYED

After setting up the sushi restaurant with plates and staff, passing out the money and taking a look at the menu, choose the first customer to snug up to the table - turns will go to the left from there.

On their turn, players will take three steps, in order:

1. Reveal the top card of the Side Dish deck and place it face-up on the discard pile, adding sushi to the Sushi Boat as indicated in the upper-right hand corner of that card (unless it's a Wasabi Challenge! Then things get HOT!).

THEN

2. Move your pawn to an empty seat.

THEN

3. Perform up to two actions:

  • Eat sushi - take the plate from in front of your seat (or another spot, if the Sushi Boat says so) and add it, without looking at your hidden plates, to your stack. Make sure you're remembering what you've already eaten - it counts for points!

  • Visit the Staff at your seat and tip them to use their special action.

  • Take one Yen from the bank.

These actions are done in any order, but you cannot repeat the same action twice in the same turn. Once all three steps are complete, play goes to the left.

WASABI CHALLENGES

If the card flipped from the Side Dish deck is Wasabi, play stops and the Challenge is made! Each player (no matter who the active player is) takes two Wasabi cubes and secretly chooses the color or colors that they believe are hidden in the bottom end of the Sushi Boat. Once everyone has placed their cubes on their colors, everyone reveals their guesses and the sushi plates are advanced until the hidden plates appear. Players with cubes on the correct color or colors keep their wasabi cubes in their 'bowl' on their player board. The rest are returned to the center.

SPECIAL ACTIONS

Side Dishes have all sorts of special benefits! If you use a staff member's ability to buy a Side Dish (the top one of the discard pile is always available), you can hold up to two in your hand to play whenever, whether it's your turn or not! Some give you victory points, some let you swap plates in your stack or on the conveyor belt, or even peek at your plates in the stack, in case you need to refresh your memory.

END OF THE GAME

Once you run out of Side Dishes, it's time to wrap up the meal and pay the bill! The last player will flip the final Side Dish, finish their turn, and points are tallied. Players will receive points for consecutive colors of plates in their stack, variety of sushi eaten, number of Side Dishes played and Wasabi cubes won. In the case of a tie, the winner is the one with the most remaining Yen!
