Scavenger is set in the ravaged world of Akara where the only hope is an ancient gateway called the Monolith. It leads to the mysterious World Torn Apart - or Torn -  none know from whence it came or how it works. From Torn came sanguine shardstones. These gems allow those who study them to warp reality in strange ways, and were it not for the Great Dying, the face of Akara would have been revolutionized. Nonetheless, the Great Dying is here; a set of natural disasters on a scale unimaginable, a veritable extinction event with seemingly no cause and no end.

Humanity’s hope lies in the hands of the scavengers. Scavengers are the desperate, the damned, and the daring refugees of fallen city-states and destroyed tribes. As Akara is struck with one cataclysm after another, these untethered individuals throw themselves through the Monolith, praying that they'll find something that'll save their loved ones, their homes, their legacies, and their very futures. As they endure the astonishing bizarreness of Torn they themselves are warped into something beyond human. More than a few scavengers wonder if what they must endure is worth whatever hope they'll find.

Akara is a world utterly unlike Earth's own. The cultures are just as diverse, and each has a role to play in humanity's salvation. Alongside the native akarans are the four-armed morg and the estranged and eerie kith. This book will not only go into detail about these two species but also explore the last standing city-states: the assassin-haunted Bataar, the rich and xenophobic Mur, the blood-raiding Kanuma, and the cosmopolitan last home of the refugees - Tarnak.
